The Sanctum takes its name from its headquarters, a massive edifice that floats in the skies above the city.

The Sanctum is inspired by numerous conclaves, orders, cabals, and such from across fantasy fiction, but most immediately are The Inverted Pyramid from Monte Cook’s Ptolus: City by the Spire and The Towers of High Sorcery from the DragonLance novels.
